FALL 2007: NEWSDAY
"She’s a Lady"
February 7th 2007 - Designer Michael Vollbracht is having quite a year, what with Angelina Jolie wearing one of his confections on the cover of Vogue, and The First Lady donning a red ensemble from his collection at the Heart Truth extravaganza. Vollbracht admitted in his notes to “tweaking” the looks of fellow Indianans Halston, Norman Norell and Blass (in that case, he said, because “its my job to knock him off.”) The result? Stunning coats, a fuzzy fuchsia boucle, cocoa feathered sable (yum), and a black peau de sois coat and dress ensemble that actually raised goose bumps. Spare jersey dresses, socialite suits, dramatic gowns of silk jersey rounded out the runway, standouts including a “Halson-like” black cashmere coat over an ivory and black sequin slither and our favorite, an easy sable-lined anorak over a sequin dress. The finale? At least a dozen little black Blass dresses walked out en masse. Quite the spectacle! |
